I have used salt for 2 reasons: 1) Remedy nitrite. I usually use at least 100-fold of NaCl compared to nitrite. If I have 0.5 ppm nitrite I will add salt to at least 50 ppm. Usually I add salt to 500 ppm, which is 0.05%. 2) To kill costia and chilo. I found 0.8% for 2 weeks worked great for me.
